Liverpool have reportedly slapped a price tag of €7 million on out-of-favour star Xherdan Shaqiri, who is a transfer target for Turkish club Fenerbahce.

According to a report from Turkish publication Sabah, Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri has emerged as a priority transfer target for Fenerbahce ahead of the summer transfer window, with the Reds demanding a fee of €7 million for his services.

Shaqiri has been with Liverpool for three years now, having signed from Stoke City in the summer of 2018. While the Switzerland international has never been a regular fixture in Jurgen Klopp’s side, he has made valuable contributions during the Reds’ UEFA Champions League and Premier League triumphs in the past couple of years.

However, Shaqiri endured a torrid 2020/21 campaign which saw him struggle for regular game-time. Indeed the 29-year-old featured just 24 times across all competitions, with only five of these appearances being starts in the Premier League. He produced a tally of just the one goal and four assists in his handful of appearances.

Having seemingly fallen way down the pecking order of things at Liverpool, Shaqiri is said to have grown frustrated with his situation and has informed his representatives to find him a new club before the next season kicks off. And, it seems like the 29-year-old winger’s potential availability has alerted Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

Indeed, the Yellow Canaries are seriously considering the possibility of signing Shaqiri from Liverpool in the upcoming transfer window. To that end, they have already sent out feelers in order to explore the feasibility of a switch. And, as per the report, the Premier League bigwigs are open to letting the Switzerland international leave, provided his suitors pay a transfer fee of €7 million.

Fenerbahce, though, are finding it difficult to make the financial arrangements needed and are instead floating the idea of taking the 29-year-old on loan for a season with an obligation to make the transfer permanent next year. Liverpool, however, are yet to respond to the counter-proposal from the Turkish giants.

What will Ibrahima Konate bring to the table for Liverpool? | THT Opinions

Liverpool, who completed their first summer signing with Ibrahima Konate’s arrival, are in the market for new forwards. The Reds have been linked with a move for Villarreal speedster Samu Chukwueze, among others and will need to make room for any new signing in the attacking department by letting go of fringe players such as Divock Origi, Takumi Minamino as well as Shaqiri.

With Fenerbahce seemingly keen on the 29-year-old Swiss international, it now remains to be seen if they are willing to match Liverpool’s €7 million asking price for Shaqiri or whether the Reds agree to a loan-to-buy deal.
