Callum Hudson-Odoi has reportedly emerged as a transfer target for German giants Borussia Dortmund, with Chelsea open to selling the England international.

According to a report from Eurosport, Borussia Dortmund have set their sights on Chelsea youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi as a potential transfer target for the upcoming transfer window, should Jadon Sancho leave.

Hudson-Odoi came through the youth ranks at Chelsea and made his senior breakthrough during the 2018/19 campaign under Maurizio Sarri. The English winger grew into prominence gradually, but has never quite been able to nail down a place in the side be it under Frank Lampard or now under Thomas Tuchel.

Hudson-Odoi featured 37 times across all competitions for Chelsea during the 2020/21 campaign, only ten of which were starts in the Premier League. The 20-year-old produced a return of five goals and five assists, in the process.

Hudson-Odoi had been heavily linked with a transfer to German champions Bayern Munich in the recent past, which prompted Chelsea to hand him a bumper £120,000-a-week long-term deal. However, the youngster has failed to live up to the billing since, and with him not establishing himself in the side, the Blues are now open the possibility of offloading him in the summer.

This has seemingly alerted Borussia Dortmund, who have shown an interest in the 20-year-old Chelsea academy graduate. The German giants could be forced into the transfer market this summer to secure a replacement of Jadon Sancho. The Englishman has been heavily linked with an exit from Signal Iduna Park this summer, with Manchester United keen on the winger.

Chelsea are also said to be keen on signing Sancho from Dortmund, with the Blues reportedly lining up an offer of £80 million for the former Manchester City academy ace. And, this could potentially lead to the Black and Yellows making a move for Hudson-Odoi in order to replace their wing-wizard in the summer and have already made tentative enquiries for him.

The report does not mention any valuation with regard to Hudson-Odoi, while also adding that Chelsea would also consider loaning him out, provided the majority of his wages are covered by his temporary club. It remains to be seen whether Dortmund do follow up on their interest in the Blues’ youngster or look at other targets such as Raphinha of Leeds United as well as Lille’s Jonathan Ikone.
