Barcelona are reportedly on the cusp of signing Georginio Wijnaldum, who has reached a verbal agreement to join the Catalan giants.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Georginio Wijnaldum is set to make the switch to Barcelona on a Bosman move in the summer transfer window. The Blaugrana have reached a verbal agreement with the Liverpool midfielder, who will pen a three-year deal at Camp Nou.

Wijnaldum arrived at Liverpool from Newcastle United in the summer of 2016 and has spent a fruitful half-a-decade at Anfield. In this period, the Dutchman has been a pivotal figure for the Reds, playing a key role in their recent trophy-laden period including winning their maiden Premier League title while also becoming European champions for a sixth time.

However, it has been clear for some time that Wijnaldum will be leaving Liverpool as a free agent in the summer transfer window, after having turned out as many as 237 times for the Merseyside club. In recent weeks, the 30-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs across Europe, but it has been suggested for some time that his next destination is Barcelona.

Barcelona had, in fact, been keen on signing Wijnaldum from Liverpool last summer as well before a move failed to materialise. Heading into this summer’s transfer window, though, the appeal to secure the services of the experienced midfielder had grown even further, seeing as he was set to become a free agent.

However, while Wijnaldum had been intent on joining Barcelona, there had been suggestions in recent weeks that the Blaugrana might not be too keen on signing him anymore. That was due to the advent of Ilaix Moriba in the first-team setup, although with Carles Alena, Riqui Puig and Philippe Coutinho all being tipped to leave the club this summer, the need to bolster midfield has arisen.

To that end, Wijnaldum, who was briefly linked with AS Roma and Bayern Munich among others, is a viable target for Barcelona, who can benefit a great deal from the experience and winning mentality he brings to the table. And, Barcelona have now reached a verbal agreement to sign the Dutch international on a three-year deal.

In fact, Romano has made his famous ‘Here We Go’ declaration, with the 30-year-old even ready to earn a reduced wage package at Camp Nou. It now looks like Wijnaldum could become one of several arrivals on a free transfer at Barcelona, who are also set to sign Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia on Bosman moves.

This club is going backwards. An incompetent coach, sign players like 32 years old Augero, 30 years old Wynaldum. What about 55 years old Koeman put him in the team or maybe Richard or other oldie just to fill up the numbers with experience but no legs to run. Bullshit. Don’t have to appease Messi to sign Aguero. If he wants to go let him go.
