Paris Saint-Germain have set their sights on Chelsea superstar N’Golo Kante, as Mauricio Pochettino eyes up midfield reinforcements in the summer.

According to El Sol, Paris Saint-Germain are ready to go all out in pursuit of N’Golo Kante. The Chelsea midfielder has been identified as the desired target for PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino, who is keen on using the club’s financial powers to significantly strengthen his team’s ranks, following a disastrous 2020/21 campaign.

Midfield, in particular, has emerged as a weakness for PSG, which is why Pochettino wants to sign Kante, unleashing the Frenchman alongside Marco Veratti in the middle of the park. This is not the first not time Kante has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, though, with the Chelsea midfielder reportedly a target for newly-crowned Italian champions Inter Milan as well.

Part of the 2015/16 Leicester City squad that lifted the Premier League title, Kante has gone strength to strength since his arrival at Chelsea. The energetic operator has firmly established himself as one of the best central midfielders in the world, amassing 217 competitive appearances for the Blues.

A former member of the SM Caen squad, Kante’s return to his homeland could make a lot of sense, as PSG need an upgrade over the likes of Leandro Paredes and Idrissa Gueye, especially after losing out on the Ligue 1 title at the hands of LOSC Lille.

PSG have also been criticised for their lack of a ball-winner as well as a composed character in midfield, which is where Chelsea star Kante could prove to be an ideal fix. Although, his future probably lies at Stamford Bridge, having enjoyed immense success under Thomas Tuchel.

The former Leicester City midfielder’s colossal displays against Real Madrid over the two legs were vital in helping the west London giants reach the final of the UEFA Champions League while Chelsea secured a top four finish in the league as well.

Tuchel is now keen on further strengthening his ranks by signing a solid holding midfielder who can complement Kante. Declan Rice is the priority target this summer, but the Chelsea boss is also eyeing a move for his former disciple in Julian Weigl – as a cost-effective alternative.

In fact, the former Borussia Dortmund coach is plotting move for a bunch of Bundesliga players as well, including Maxence Lacroix of Wolfsburg, with Jonas Hofmann of Borussia Monchengladbach a target for Chelsea as well.

As for Kante, PSG certainly have the financial firepower to pull off a deal for the World Cup-winning Frenchman, but at the same time, they are unlikely to best a Chelsea side that are ready to unleash their riches in the hopes of competing against the top dogs next season.
