Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old German international Robin Gosens from Atalanta this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Sport, the race to sign Robin Gosens from Atalanta in the summer transfer window just got more interesting. Barcelona are the latest in the long line of suitors for the 26-year-old German international, who is also courting interest from the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Manchester City.

Gosens joined Atalanta from Heracles Almelo in the summer of 2017 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most enterprising players in Serie A. A pivotal figure for La Dea, the player has played a key role in their ascent in Italian football and enjoyed a particularly productive 2020/21 campaign.

A tally of 12 goals and 8 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions is nothing short of impressive. His progress in recent years has certainly not gone unnoticed, with the 26-year-old attracting the interest of a number of top clubs across Europe, with Barcelona the latest to show an interest in the German international.

Barcelona are set to enter the transfer market for a left-back this summer, and for good reason. While Jordi Alba has rediscovered his best strengths since the switch in formation from Ronald Koeman, at 32, he is not getting any younger. Therefore, the Blaugrana will need to lay down a succession plan for the Spanish international soon enough.

Junior Firpo does not seem to be a part of such a plan, with the 24-year-old failing to make any sort of impression since arriving from Real Betis in 2019. In fact, he has been so underwhelming that he is being tipped for a summer exit from Camp Nou, with Barcelona in search of a left-back. To that end, the Catalan giants have been linked with Jose Gaya and Angelino.

However, any pursuit of Gaya, in particular, is quite complicated, which is why Barcelona are also keeping their options open. As a result, Caio Henrique is among the players linked with Barcelona, with Gosens a viable target as well, although the heavyweights of La Liga will need to shell out around €40 million to secure his services.

Amid a financial crunch, it is hard to see how Barcelona might be able to afford a €40 million fee for the German international, despite the fact that a number of their summer signings will come on a free transfer. Also, with the likes of AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus and Manchester City also keen on signing Gosens, Barcelona could face quite the battle to land him.
