Chelsea are angling for a summer swoop for AS Monaco’s midfield sensation Aurelien Tchouameni this summer.

According to Goal, Aurelien Tchouameni has become a major transfer target for Chelsea this summer. The AS Monaco midfielder has impressed the onlookers with his marvellous breakthrough in Ligue 1 this season and could cost around €40 million this summer.

A product of the Bordeaux youth academy, Tchouameni has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence at Monaco, under the leadership of Niko Kovac. The former Frankfurt head coach has moulded him into a solid central midfielder, using his technical prowess and dynamism to solidify the second line of press.

Tchouameni has indeed built a formidable midfield partnership alongside Youssouf Fofana – helping Les Monegasques reach the cup final as well as emerge as the third-best team in France.

Chelsea have been keeping a close eye on the 21-year-old since the turn of the year. His dynamic presence in midfield seems to have caught the attention of Thomas Tuchel, who must have seen a fair share of the midfielder during his time at Paris Saint-Germain during the first half of the campaign.

Tchouameni, in fact, was involved in the Monaco side that beat Tuchel’s PSG 3-2 earlier in the campaign, with the youngster starring in a midfield role alongside Fofana.

Tuchel has come a long way since and is currently thriving at Stamford Bridge – taking Chelsea to the UEFA Champions League final set to be played at the end of this month. However, the German needs to prepare for next season, if the Blues are to emerge as a threat to Manchester City and Manchester United.

One of the potential weaknesses could be the midfield department, as Chelsea do indeed lack depth despite boasting tremendous quality in Jorginho, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic. They do have other options, but the likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ross Barkley have been linked with a permanent move away from Stamford Bridge.

That is where someone like Tchouameni could be useful, as he can bring the youthful exuberance in the middle of the park. His dynamic style of play should also tune in well with Premier League’s style of football, although it remains to be seen whether the Monaco starlet will be too keen on playing as a second fiddle to the aforementioned Chelsea stars.

Tchouameni is also not the only young Frenchman Chelsea are looking at, though, as the west London have been credited with an interest in Maxence Lacroix recently.

It appears the VfL Wolfsburg defender, a former member of the FC Sochaux youth academy, is being targeted as a potential long-term replacement for Thiago Silva, so it will be interesting to see how these transfer sagas transpire for the Blues this summer.
