AC Milan have reportedly leapfrogged Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Orkun Kokcu in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, AC Milan are leading the race to sign Orkun Kokcu from Feyenoord in the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old Turkish midfielder is also being tailed by the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Sevilla ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Orkun Kokcu has established himself as one of the most promising young midfielders in Europe at the moment. The 20-year-old, who joined four other clubs before completing his footballing education with Feyenoord, broke into the Dutch outfit’s first-team squad in 2018 aged just 17.

Since then, the 20-year-old midfielder has gone from strength to strength and has become a regular feature in the middle of the park for Feyenoord. In the ongoing campaign, Kokcu has made 28 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with 4 goals and 3 assists. The youngster’s progress has certainly not gone unnoticed, with Arsenal and Tottenham in his pursuit.

Arsenal’s interest in Kokcu makes a great deal of sense, considering there are question marks over the future of Martin Odegaard at the Emirates, while Dani Ceballos is set to return to Real Madrid as well. As a result, it is imperative that the Gunners look towards alternatives for Odegaard, in particular, making Kokcu a viable target to consider.

Tottenham, like Arsenal, are in pursuit of Kokcu for good reason, with Dele Alli facing an uncertain future at the club despite his recent resurgence under the tutelage of Ryan Mason. Therefore, the need to bolster their midfield is rather urgent for Spurs, who have, in turn, set their sights on Kokcu.

Arsenal and Tottenham, though, are trailing AC Milan in pursuit of the 20-year-old midfielder, who could possibly be a long-term replacement for Hakan Calhanoglu, who has coincidentally been linked with Arsenal, among other clubs. With Soualiho Meita looking unlikely to be signed permanently, the Rossoneri could find a use for Kokcu even if Calhanoglu stays.

The report mentions that the deal to sign Kokcu will cost up to €15 million and it appears that the move to San Siro could see the light of the day for the 20-year-old. As for Arsenal and Tottenham, they will have to turn their attention elsewhere in search of a midfield reinforcement, and it will be interesting to see who they turn towards next.
