Real Madrid have reportedly made an enquiry for Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier, who is valued at around €12 million by the Premier League club.

According to a report from French outlet Foot Mercato, Tottenham Hotspur right-back Serge Aurier has become a subject of a transfer approach from reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid ahead of the summer window.

Aurier has been with Tottenham Hotspur since 2017, having signed from French giants Paris Saint-Germain. Having had to play second-fiddle to Kieran Trippier in his first two years at the club, the 28-year-old became the first-choice right-back last season but endured a rough campaign, leading to Tottenham signing Matt Doherty.

However, with the Irishman also failing to impress, Aurier was able to reclaim the right-back slot for himself and has featured 27 times in all competitions for Tottenham, producing a return of two goals and three assists. While his attacking capabilities are never in doubt, the Ivory Coast international is a liability at the back, something that Spurs have learnt at a big cost in recent years.

But as he is set to enter the final year of his contract with the north London giants, Aurier has popped up on the radars of Spanish giants Real Madrid. The Merengues are in the market for a new right-back and understandably so, given the injury-riddled year that Dani Carvajal has endured.

With Alvaro Odriozola not enjoying the faith of manager Zinedine Zidane and Lucas Vazquez nearing the end of his contract, Real Madrid need an able backup for Carvajal ahead of next season. To that end, they have been linked with a move for Aurier’s former Tottenham teammate Trippier recently, while the Ivorian himself has now emerged as a potential transfer target.

It is claimed that Real Madrid have made an enquiry for the 28-year-old while also gleaning information about the defender from Raphael Varane, who was Aurier’s teammate back at the nascent stages of their respective careers at RC Lens. In fact, the report also adds that Aurier has also been in contact with the Frenchman to learn about the Spanish capital outfit.

Aurier’s former club PSG, now managed by his ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, are also interested in the right-back. Tottenham, for their part, are open to offloading him for a transfer fee of around €12 million. It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid do act on their interest in Aurier or pursue alternate targets such as Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
