Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Harry Kane, with the Red Devils ready to rival Chelsea in the pursuit of the Tottenham forward.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United have stepped up their pursuit of Harry Kane, as they look to make the final checks before weighing up a move for Tottenham Hotspur striker this summer.

A few days ago, Chelsea were believed to be frontrunners in the race to sign Kane. However, it appears the Red Devils are now ready to splash the cash on the English international, who is reportedly unhappy with Spurs and their lack of success in domestic and European football.

The forward, as a result, could be open to a summer switch – putting United and Chelsea on red alert. Although Tottenham have no intention of selling their prized asset, they could be forced to cash in this summer, given the fact that the player’s contract in north London expires in 2023.

It bodes well for Manchester United, especially with Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer keen on bolstering his options in the attacking department this summer. The Red Devils have recently extended Edinson Cavani’s contract to one more year, which suggests the club’s lack of trust in Anthony Martial.

Linked with an exit from Old Trafford, it won’t be surprising to see the Frenchman leaving the club, thus paving the way for United to make room for Kane.

However, they should be wary of Chelsea’s interest, given the fact that the Blues are in much better financial shape. It seems Roman Abramovich has been impressed with the progress the club has made under Thomas Tuchel, who, in turn, is keen on securing the services of a top-class centre-forward.

While Erling Haaland is the priority target for obvious reasons, Kane could be a logical choice given the Englishman’s vast experience in the Premier League and a proven track record.

Even Barcelona have registered interest in Kane, although the Catalan giants have much poorer financial status thanks to the pandemic. For Tottenham, though, the growing competition will certainly be a positive thing as it will give the leverage to increase the player’s valuation.

The Lilywhites also need to sort out plans of their own, as far as the Kane replacement is concerned. One of the stars linked with a switch to north London is none other than Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

It appears Arsenal might be willing to offload their star striker in the Premier League, although whether or not the Gabonese international favours a switch to their direct rivals remains to be seen.
