Liverpool have reportedly been tracking the contract situation of Patrick Bamford at Leeds United, with Jurgen Klopp an admirer of the striker.

According to a report by The Athletic, Liverpool are among the clubs that are keeping a keen eye on Patrick Bamford and his contract situation at Leeds United. The English striker had been thought to be nearing the final 12 months of his deal at Elland Road, but has seemingly extended his stay at the club.

Patrick Bamford, for years, was a part of the infamous loan army at Chelsea, having been hauled out to six different clubs before finally departing Stamford Bridge without making a single first-team appearance for the Blues. The 27-year-old initially joined Middlesbrough, but the move did not really work out and he then made his way to Leeds United in the summer of 2018.

It is at Elland Road where the English striker has finally found his calling and after returning to the Premier League with the Whites, he has been one of their leading lights this season, scoring 15 goals while providing 8 assists in 35 Premier League outings. His progress this season has not gone unnoticed either, with Liverpool among the clubs keeping tabs on him.

Liverpool are likely to dip their toes in the transfer market for at least one attacking reinforcement this coming summer owing to the fact that both Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi are expected to be offloaded. That would leave the Reds in need of a replacement, while Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino have also been linked with possible summer exits.

To that end, the outgoing Premier League champions have been rumoured to be scouring for a striker, with the likes of Odsonne Edouard, Donyell Malen and Dusan Vlahovic on their radar, apart from Erling Haaland. And, Bamford could be a viable target as well, if Liverpool do take a serious interest in him.

As things stand, though, it looks like Liverpool’s interest in Bamford might just be from a safe distance, especially after clarification over his contract situation. The 27-year-old had initially thought to be entering the final 12 months of his contract with Leeds.

Howver, Bamford has seemingly signed an extension, which could hike his valuation and make it difficult for suitors to swoop him away from Elland Road. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Liverpool do make a move for Bamford this summer.
