Barcelona have been handed a boost in pursuit of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, who is open to making his way to Camp Nou this summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Sport, Harry Kane is open to the prospect of joining Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Catalan giants have held talks with the entourage of the English striker, who has asked Tottenham Hotspur to sell him ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Kane has been a pivotal figure for Tottenham Hotspur since enjoying his breakthrough campaign with the north Londoners in the 2013/14 season. Over the past eight years or so, the Englishman has gone on to establish himself as one of the best players in the world and is currently enjoying a truly exceptional campaign.

In 46 appearances across all competitions, Kane has a return of 31 goals and 16 assists to show for his efforts. However, with Tottenham set to finish another season without winning silverware, Kane’s patience has run out at the north London club and is ready for a summer exit. A possible destination could be Barcelona.

Barcelona chose not to replace Luis Suarez with a natural striker last summer, and the absence of an out-and-out centre-forward – apart from Martin Braithwaite, who is only a backup option – has been clearly evident at times this term. So, while Antoine Griezmann has enjoyed a fine resurgence since the turn of the year, it will also be prudent to sign a striker, making Kane a viable target.

In fact, Barcelona have already established contact with Kane’s representatives and have now been handed a major boost in his pursuit, with the 27-year-old open to a summer switch to Camp Nou. The England captain, though, is not the priority target for the Blaugrana.

Instead, Barcelona are prioritising a move for Haaland, having also held talks to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker. Lautaro Martinez also seems to be ahead of Kane in the pecking order of targets, as far as striker are concerned.

However, the fact that Kane is open to joining Barcelona does leave the Catalans in good stead, and it remains to be seen if they eventually turn their attention towards him, in the scenario they are unable to secure the services of either Haaland or Martinez. Having said that, it will also be interesting to see if they can raise the funds necessary to sign Kane, who will possibly command a sizable transfer fee.
