Liverpool have reportedly made an enquiry for Rodrigo De Paul, who is valued by Udinese around €40 million.

According to an exclusive report by Italian outlet FC Inter News, the race to sign Rodrigo De Paul in the summer transfer window is starting to intensify. Liverpool are among the clubs who have made an approach for the Argentine playmaker, who is valued by Udinese around €40 million.

Rodrigo De Paul has established himself as one of the most underrated players in Serie A since joining Udinese from Valencia in the summer of 2016. In fact, such has been his impact for Le Zebrette that the 26-year-old was promoted to the role of club captain this season.

The Argentine playmaker has been quite impressive this term, boasting a solid tally of 8 goals and 9 assists in 32 Serie A outings. Suffice to say, his exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Liverpool among a number of clubs who have been showing an interest in De Paul in recent times.

Liverpool’s eagerness to sign De Paul makes a great deal of sense, seeing as they appear set to lose Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer in the summer transfer window. The Dutchman’s departure will open up a spot in the Reds’ midfield unit, one that can be filled seamlessly by the Argentine midfielder, who will also add some much-needed creativity from the middle of the park.

In addition, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also tipped to leave Liverpool, it appears De Paul could be a part of a squad overhaul, if signed. Liverpool, though, face stiff competition from AC Milan and newly-crowned Serie A champions Inter Milan in pursuit of the 26-year-old.

In fact, the trio have all already approached his agent Mino Raiola over the prospect of a move in the summer transfer window. However, Liverpool, in addition to the two Milan clubs, are likely to be deterred by De Paul’s €40 million valuation.

With the Merseyside giants not getting anything from the departure of Wijnaldum, a €40 million outlay on De Paul might just be a tad bit difficult to execute amid a challenging financial climate. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Liverpool, or the other suitors, can get his price tag reduced in the summer, with De Paul likely to leave Udinese ahead of the 2021/22 season.
