Chelsea have reportedly established contact with Barcelona over the possibility of signing Miralem Pjanic this coming summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Sport, Barcelona have reportedly received an enquiry for Miralem Pjanic from Chelsea over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Bosnian midfielder is also being tailed by Inter Milan, who have approached the Blaugrana as well.

Pjanic arrived at Barcelona from Juventus last summer as part of a deal that saw Brazilian midfield star Arthur head in the opposite direction. The cultured midfielder, though, has struggled in his maiden campaign at Camp Nou, managing to start just 13 of the 50 games that Barcelona have played this term.

Suffice to say, the move has not panned out as envisioned and it now looks like his time at the club could be set to come to an end after just one season. And Barcelona, who would like to part ways with the 31-year-old and get his high wages off their books, have been approached by Chelsea over a possible summer move.

The interest from Chelsea is a tad bit surprising, considering N’Golo Kante has been one of the best midfielders in Europe this season, as was illustrated in the Blues’ win over Real Madrid this week. In addition, Jorginho has earned the trust of Thomas Tuchel, and recent reports suggest that he is not going anywhere despite a few suggestions that he is pining for a return to Italy.

With Mateo Kovacic also being one of the most consistent performers for Chelsea, it is difficult to see where exactly Pjanic would fit in the scheme of things, especially with Billy Gilmour tipped to have a bright future at Stamford Bridge. Nevertheless, it looks like Chelsea might want to swoop the 31-year-old, who has also been linked with rivals Manchester United, away from Barcelona.

Three Georginio Wijnaldum alternatives for Barcelona | THT Opinions

Barcelona, on their part, seem to be planning for a midfield overhaul as well, seeing as they have been eyeing Georginio Wijnaldum – as well as his potential alternatives – in addition to a long-term successor for Sergio Busquets, with Manuel Locatelli, Mikel Merino and Eduardo Camavinga linked with a summer switch.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan have also made an enquiry for Pjanic, and are keen on bringing him back to Serie A as they look for a replacement for Arturo Vidal. What now remains to be seen is if Chelsea follow up their interest in the cultured Bosnian star by lodging an offer for Barcelona to consider.
