Arsenal have reportedly made a lowly offer of €9 million for Paris Saint-Germain defender Thilo Kehrer, with the French club keen on offloading him in the summer.

According to an exclusive report from Paris Fans, Arsenal have made an approach to secure the signing of German international defender Thilo Kehrer from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain by offering a sum of €9 million for his services.

Kehrer has been with PSG since 2018, having joined from Schalke in a deal worth €37 million. A highly-rated prospect at the time, the 24-year-old has failed to kick on as expected, even though he was a regular feature in the backline for the French champions in his debut season. Till date, he has managed 92 appearances for Les Parisiens, scoring and assisting two goals apiece.

Kehrer is a versatile operator who can play at centre-back as well as right-back. However, the German international has been behind the likes of Alessandro Florenzi, Colin Dagba, Marquinhos and Presnel Kimpembe behind the pecking order in the ongoing campaign. And, as per the report, PSG are now contemplating a sale this summer.

Alerted by the situation, Arsenal are said to have made an approach for the 24-year-old Kehrer. The Gunners will be needing reinforcements at the back ahead of the next season as Hector Bellerin has been heavily linked with a summer exit, which would create a vacancy at right-back while David Luiz’s contract expiry at the end of the campaign means a new centre-back would also become a necessity.

To that end, Arsenal have been linked with Loic Bade of RC Lens to address the need of a new central defender while Real Betis’ right-back Emerson Royal, who is part-owned by Barcelona, has also emerged as a transfer target for the north Londoners heading into the summer. And, as per the aforementioned report, Kehrer is the latest player that they are showing an interest in.

A move for the 24-year-old would make sense considering that he can add depth in two positions in defence while he also has the experience of playing for a title-winning team which is sure to come in handy for Arsenal. Having said that, the Gunners have made a lowly, almost derisory bid of just €9 million, even though Kehrer still has two years left on his current contract with PSG.

The French giants, though, are demanding a transfer fee of around €25 million, as they look to recoup most of what they spent on Kehrer three years ago, considering that he still has his best years in front of him. It now remains to be seen if Arsenal make an improved offer for the nine-time capped German international in the summer or look for alternatives.
