Manchester United are reportedly plotting a £90 million mega swoop for Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane in the upcoming transfer window.

According to an exclusive report from The Sun, Manchester United are preparing to make a shock £90 million move for Tottenham Hotspur and England superstar Harry Kane this summer.

Kane, a product of the Tottenham Hotspur youth academy, has grown into one of the most prolific forwards in the game. His tally of 219 goals and 46 assists in 332 games speaks for itself. The 27-year-old has enjoyed a stunning 2020/21 campaign despite Spurs’ struggles, plundering 31 goals and 16 assists from 45 games across all competitions.

Heading into the summer, Kane’s future at the club has become a subject of intense speculation. For all his on-field triumphs, the England captain is yet to win a single major trophy in his career. And he has previously hinted that he could consider switching clubs in case he felt that his ambitions will not be matched at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With Spurs missing out on the Carabao Cup this term and staring at the possibility of not playing Champions League football next season as well, there is a good chance that Kane could decide to move on. And, Manchester United are hoping to capitalise by launching a move for the ace goalscorer in the summer.

Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move for Kane for a while now. The Red Devils are in need of a new striker ahead of the new season, given as the club is lacking that infallible goalscorer who can be the bridge the gap from title challengers to title winners. Anthony Martial has endured another disappointing campaign while Edinson Cavani, as good as he has been, is a short-term option at best.

With Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood finding home out wide, a new striker has to be a top priority for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, making Kane a viable target for Manchester United. Apart from the sporting reasons, the Red Devils’ interest in the 27-year-old is also driven by the club’s owners, The Glazers, as they look to win over the fans after recent occurrences.

The Glazers have never been well-liked by the Manchester United fans and the recent attempt at forming the breakaway European Super League has tipped them over the edge as there have been strong protests calling for a change of ownership. The US-based owners, however, have no intentions of relinquishing their position but are hoping to appease the fans by funding a move for a superstar like Kane in the summer.

A move, however, might be difficult to work out given Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s stance, who does not want to let Kane join a rival Premier League club. But, Kane himself asking for a transfer, something that could be possible as he favours a transfer to Old Trafford, could force the Spurs’ chief into considering a sale.

A bid of £90 million, however, is likely to fall short of Tottenham’s valuation of their prized asset. Furthermore, Kane is also courting interest from Manchester City as well as Chelsea, which ought to complicate matters further. It now remains to be seen if Manchester United do launch a bid for the 27-year-old come summer.
