Real Madrid are reportedly considering a shock move for Atletico Madrid defender Kieran Trippier ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Kieran Trippier is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a shock move in the summer transfer window. Los Blancos view the Atletico Madrid superstar as a possible cover and competition for Dani Carvajal.

Kieran Trippier joined Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2019 following a productive four-year stint with Tottenham Hotspur. The switch to the Wanda Metropolitano has worked out quite well for the 30-year-old, who has been the first-choice right-back for Los Rojiblancos over the last two seasons.

Till date, Trippier has turned out 63 times for Atletico Madrid, supplying an impressive 11 assists in the process. His progress has certainly not gone unnoticed, with the English international being linked with a number of top clubs across Europe for a big summer move. The latest suitor for the player are Real Madrid.

Real Madrid could well be forced to dip their toes in the transfer market for a right-back this summer, seeing as Alvaro Odriozola is not really rated much by Zinedine Zidane, while Lucas Vazquez, who has been excellent while playing as a makeshift right-back this term, is set for a summer departure as a free agent, having held talks with Arsenal recently over a Bosman move.

With Dani Carvajal struggling with a myriad of long-term injuries over the last couple of seasons and managing a mere 15 appearances across all competitions this term, it is understandable why Real Madrid would want to sign a right-back in the summer transfer window.

To that end, the Merengues have been linked with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Achraf Hakimi, among others, with Trippier now emerging on their radar. In fact, the report mentions that Real Madrid are willing to offer a significant sum to Atletico Madrid to prise him away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

Having said that, it will be interesting to see if the Colchoneros do entertain any sort of offer from their local rivals, considering they might not want to strengthen a direct rival. Nevertheless, it looks like Real Madrid could make a move for Trippier this summer, as Carvajal’s injury woes worsen.
