Liverpool have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Florian Neuhaus as the Borussia Monchengladbach star has his heart set on a transfer to Anfield.
Speaking on his Bayern Insider Podcast (h/t The Liverpool Offside), BILD journalist Christian Falk has claimed that Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus has his ‘heart set on’ a summer transfer to Premier League champions Liverpool.
Neuhaus, 24, has been with Gladbach since 2017, signing from 1860 Munich. Following a loan spell away at Fortuna Dusseldorf in 2017/18, the German midfielder has been a regular fixture in the side at Borussia Park, racking up 115 appearances in which he has produced a return of 15 goals and 20 assists. He has been particularly impressive in the ongoing season, bagging seven goals and eight assists from 42 games in all competitions.
Neuhaus’s rise to prominence in Bundesliga has seen him attract suitors from across Europe, with the likes of Real Madrid, Tottenham Hotspur taking a keen interest in his services. Along with these clubs, reigning English champions, Liverpool have also expressed a liking towards the German international.
Liverpool’s interested in Neuhaus is more than justified as Jurgen Klopp’s side will be in need of reinforcements in the middle of the park ahead of the next season. Indeed, Georginio Wijnaldum is set to leave at the end of the season with his contract on the verge of expiry while there are huge question marks over the future of Naby Keita, who has underwhelmed since arriving from RB Leipzig.
With Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also not kicking on as expected and James Milner not getting any younger, a new central midfielder is very much a necessity for Liverpool if they are to rise back to the top after what has been an underwhelming defence of their Premier League crown. And, Neuhaus, to that end, would be a viable option for the Reds to consider.
And now, the Reds have been handed a boost in their pursuit of the midfielder as Christian Falk has claimed that Liverpool’s interest in Neuhaus is reciprocated by the player as well, and the 24-year-old is intent on securing a transfer to Liverpool this summer. The 24-year-old desires to play under the tutelage of the Reds’ boss Jurgen Klopp and as a result, has his heart set on a summer switch to Anfield.
Neuhaus is said to have a release clause worth €40 million, which shouldn’t burn a hole in the pockets of Liverpool. Given their imminent need of a central midfielder and the player’s keenness to make a switch, this transfer could very well go through come summer.
