Chelsea are reportedly interested in making a move for Atalanta’s German full-back Robin Gosens in the upcoming transfer window.

According to an exclusive report from Caught Offside, Premier League giants Chelsea could be lining up a summer raid on Serie A outfit Atalanta for the signing of full-back Robin Gosens.

The 26-year-old Gosens has been with Atalanta since the summer of 2017, when he signed from Dutch club Heracles Almelo and has grown into one of the best attacking wing-backs on display in Italy in recent years. Till date, he has featured 143 times for La Dea, bagging 25 goals and 20 assists, in the process breaking into the German national team, for whom he has four caps.

The 2020/21 campaign has been a particularly prolific one for Gosens, who has emerged as one of Atalanta’s pivotal attacking players from the left wing-back slot. Indeed, the 26-year-old has racked up an impressive return of 10 goals and 8 assists from 38 games across all competitions, which has now seemingly caught the attention of Chelsea.

This is not the first time that the west London giants have been credited with an interest in Gosens, with Chelsea being heavily linked with a move for the wing-back back last summer as well. However, a move never materialised, with the Blues instead signing Ben Chilwell from Premier League rivals Leicester City.

Along with Chilwell, Chelsea also have Marcos Alonso and Emerson Palmieri as options on the left side of the defence. The latter, however, continues to be linked with a return to Italy on a frequent basis. As for Alonso, the Spaniard has enjoyed some sort of resurgence under new manager Thomas Tuchel after falling out of favour under ex-boss Frank Lampard.

Indeed, for a while it seemed like Alonso had usurped Chilwell as the first-choice early in Tuchel’s reign. However, the England international has once again re-established himself as the preferred option, which could force Alonso to consider his future at Stamford Bridge. The aforementioned report goes on to add that both Alonso and Emerson could be on their way out come summer.

Such a scenario would require Chelsea to bring in a new left wing-back and Gosens, given his attacking qualities, would be the ideal fit into the current system that Tuchel has employed at the Bridge. Apart from the 26-year-old, the Blues are also considering Villarreal’s Alfonso Pedraza as a target and it remains to be seen if they end up making a move for either of them in the summer.
