Jonathan David has once again attracted interest from Premier League clubs, with Arsenal and Manchester United keeping a close eye on the Lille attacker.

According to Fichajes, Jonathan David could be set for another interesting transfer saga, as the LOSC Lille attacker has once again become a subject of interest from Premier League clubs including Arsenal and Manchester United.

Formerly of KAA Gent, David was heavily linked with a move to England last summer, before he eventually joined Lille for a fee of €27 million. He was invariably brought in as the replacement for Victor Osimhen, who moved to Napoli for a large fee.

The Canadian international initially endured a slow start to the Ligue 1 campaign, failing to provide productivity despite being given a host of opportunities in the first-team. He did, however, continue to perform well alongside the likes of Jonathan Ikone and Jonathan Bamba, creating a formidable attacking partnership.

David was eventually rewarded as he netted his first Ligue 1 goal in November. Since then, the 21-year-old has been involved in a total of 13 goals in 23 league matches, with the attacker’s performances helping Lille emerge as strong favourites for the league title. He even netted a crucial goal in the recent win over Lyon, helping Les Dogues retain their place at the top of the table.

David’s performances, it seems, have now put Arsenal on red alert, as the Gunners look to secure his services this summer after missing out on him last year. He is likely being courted as a replacement for Alexandre Lacazette, whose days at Emirates could be numbered as Mikel Arteta looks to undergo a massive overhaul in the attacking department.

Primarily known for his versatility, David could be an ideal replacement as the 21-year-old can operate not only as a centre forward but also as an attacking midfielder. It should allow Arteta to employ Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in his preferred centre-forward role, while the Lille attacker can also be considered as a potential replacement for Martin Odegaard in the number ten role.

Manchester United, too, make a strong case for the Canadian international, who might turn out to be an able replacement for the equally versatile Anthony Martial.

Much like Lacazette, Martial has been linked with a move away from England this summer, giving Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the opportunity to enter the market for a new attacker. It will be interesting to see whether Jonathan David is indeed his desired option, as the Manchester United hopes to ring in the changes to his squad, or if Arsenal swoop him away instead.
