Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly keeping a close eye on Young Boys’ defensive prodigy Mohamed Ali Camara ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to TeamTalk, Young Boys could brace themselves for a raid from Premier League, over the potential transfer of three of their main talents, including Mohamed Ali Camara. The defensive sensation has enjoyed immense success in the Swiss League, thereby attracting the interest of several top clubs across England, including Liverpool and Arsenal.

A former member of Satellite FC, in his native Guinea, Camara has even been a defensive lynchpin for Young Boys, notching up 67 competitive appearances since joining the club in 2018. His performances at the heart of the backline have also earned him a breakthrough in the Guinean national side, captained by Liverpool star Naby Keita.

The former RB Leipzig star may even have played a major role in Liverpool’s pursuit of Camara, although, in truth, the Reds have been linked with a plethora of defensive options ahead of the summer transfer window in light of their injury crisis in the ongoing campaign.

Ibrahima Konate, for one, has been one of the major names linked with an imminent move to Anfield being reported while Ozan Kabak’s loan deal could be permanent by Liverpool as well. However, it appears Jurgen Klopp is determined to further reinforce his defensive department, especially as he prepares for a future without the ageing Joel Matip.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are equally in disarray in such regard. Although the Gunners do have a lot of depth in the centre-back unit, they are braced to lose David Luiz after the end of the season while Sead Kolasinac and Calum Chambers are likely to be sold permanently in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It makes Ali Camara a valuable cost-effective option in Mikel Arteta’s bid to bolster his defensive options next season. As mentioned earlier, the 23-year-old has enjoyed a lot of success in the Swiss League, impressing with his imposing presence at the back. At Arsenal, he could be a competitor for Pablo Mari and Gabriel Magalhaes, neither of whom has managed to establish themselves as quality first-team members.

Arsenal, though, could be boosted by the return of Konstantinos Mavropanos and William Saliba in the summer, so it will be interesting to see where Arteta chooses to enter the market for Camara, knowing he simply cannot afford to splash too much cash in the current financial climate. In such a scenario, Liverpool could well end up taking the lead in the race to sign him.
