Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Takefusa Kubo on loan from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Takefusa Kubo is the latest Real Madrid star to be linked with a possible move to Arsenal in the summer transfer window. The 19-year-old Japanese prodigy is being considered by the Gunners for a loan move.

Takefusa Kubo joined Real Madrid from FC Tokyo in the summer of 2019, but is yet to establish a foothold in their first-team squad. Having arrived in the Spanish capital with a lot of hype around him, there were invariably suggestions that the teenage prodigy could emulate Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo Goes in the attacking department.

However, Kubo was sent out on loan to RCD Mallorca last season before joining Villarreal in the summer. The move to Villarreal, though, did not pan out as envisioned, which then forced Real Madrid to haul him out Getafe, where he has continued to struggle for minutes. Ahead of this summer’s transfer window, though, an intriguing option in Arsenal has emerged.

Arsenal have already conducted business with Real Madrid over the last couple of years, with Dani Ceballos spending the ongoing and the last seasons at the Emirates, while Martin Odegaard arrived on loan in the January transfer window. Odegaard, in particular, has impressed Mikel Arteta a great deal and it has been suggested that the Gunners want to sign him permanently.

However, Real Madrid are expected to slap a hefty price tag on Odegaard, while Liverpool have also emerged in his pursuit in recent weeks, which complicates matters for Arsenal. As a result, the north Londoners have been linked with a number of attacking midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window.

To that end, Julian Brandt is one of the targets identified by Arsenal over a possible summer move, with Kubo a viable target for Arsenal as well. The 19-year-old Japanese whizkid, though, could also be a solution out wide, especially with Willian and Nicolas Pepe not quite performing up to the standards.

The report claims that while Arsenal are hoping to discuss moves for Ceballos and Odegaard, they have also been given the green light by Real Madrid to sign Kubo on loan. Additionally, Arteta seems to be directly involved in the negotiations and a transfer could well be in the offing.

Indeed, Kubo is unlikely to secure regular game-time at Real Madrid next season, considering Eden Hazard, Rodrygo, Vinicius and Marco Asensio are all options out wide. In such a scenario, he will be better served playing on loan for a club where he will feature week in week out and with that being said, it remains to be seen if Arsenal can land him this coming summer.
