Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Miralem Pjanic from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Miralem Pjanic has popped up on the radar of Manchester United. The Red Devils are lining up an offer to swoop the Bosnian midfielder away from Barcelona in the summer transfer window, with the player not really featuring in Ronald Koeman’s plans.

Pjanic joined Barcelona from Juventus last summer, as part of the deal that saw Arthur make his way to Turin. The 31-year-old arrived at Camp Nou following a productive decade in Serie A, where he had been one of the best midfielders on show over the course of his stints with AS Roma as well as Juventus.

However, the move to Barcelona has not panned out as envisioned, with Bosnian international managing to start just 13 of the 47 games that the Catalans have played in the 2020/21 season. With Pjanic put in a bit of a soup, his future at Camp Nou suddenly has question marks around it, and Manchester United have turned their attention towards him.

The midfield unit is one that has seemingly not been in need of reinforcements heading into the summer transfer window. Paul Pogba has been a breath of fresh air over the course of the 2020/21 campaign, while Fred and Scott McTominay have carved out places for themselves in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.

However, with Nemanja Matic well into his thirties, Manchester United could well have to start laying down a succession plan for him. The report, though, claims that United are eyeing Pjanic as a possible replacement for Pogba, while Solskjaer does not trust Fred as his starting midfielder going into the UEFA Champions League.

While the Red Devils have been linked with Adrien Rabiot lately, Pjanic might be better suited in Solskjaer’s system should he replace Matic, or as the report suggests, Pogba. What does appear to be certain is that he might not have much of a future at Barcelona, with the player himself becoming frustrated with his situation.

It is also added that he could be deemed surplus to requirements by Koeman, which would then be followed up by an offer from Manchester United. What now remains to be seen is if Pjanic indeed ends up leaving Barcelona after just one season to make his way to Old Trafford, or if he stays put at the club.
