Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention towards Fabian Ruiz in their search for a midfield reinforcement ahead of the summer.
According to a report Spanish outlet Fichajes, Liverpool have identified Fabian Ruiz as a possible option to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in the summer transfer window. Napoli are open to cashing in on the 25-year-old Spanish international, with the Reds looking to make their move for him.
Fabian Ruiz joined Napoli from Real Betis in the summer of 2018 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the best midfielders on show in Serie A. The Spaniard, a mainstay in the middle of the park for the Partenopei, has amassed 121 appearances at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, chipping in with 14 goals and 10 assists.
However, heading into the summer transfer window, it appears as if Ruiz’s time at Napoli is set to come to an end after three seasons, with a dip in his performances leading to their openness to cashing in on him amid a financial crunch borne out of the coronavirus pandemic. And, Liverpool are one of the clubs that are hoping to pounce on such a development.
Liverpool are preparing for life after Georginio Wijnaldum, who is reportedly intent on making the switch to Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer window. With the Dutch international appearing set to depart Anfield after the end of the season, the Reds have been pushed into the market in search of a replacement.
To that end, Eduardo Camavinga has emerged as one of the options for Liverpool to replace their star midfielder. However, Ruiz, with his creative prowess as well as the ability to hound his opposition off the ball, is not just a viable option to fill the void of Wijnaldum, but also potentially an upgrade.
In fact, the report adds that Ruiz’s qualities would make enable Jurgen Klopp to make subtle changes to his style of play that could even bring the best out of Thiago Alcantara. Liverpool’s position in pursuit of the 25-year-old has further been strengthened by the fact that Napoli would be open to a transfer, as per the report.
What will now be interesting to see is if Liverpool make a serious effort to secure the services of Ruiz in the summer transfer window. If Wijnaldum indeed calls it quits at Anfield, the Spanish international could well be the man to replace him in the Liverpool midfield.
