Transfer News: Marcos Senesi on Barcelona radar

Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Marcos Senesi, as they look for left-footed centre-backs in the transfer market ahead of the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are scouring the transfer market for left-footed centre-back, as they prepare to offload Samuel Umtiti. To that end, the Catalans have turned their attention towards Marcos Senesi over a move in the summer transfer window.

Senesi joined Feyenoord from San Lorenzo in the summer of 2019 and has since gone on to grow leaps and bounds. A mainstay at the back for the Dutch outfit, the 23-year-old Argentine defender has amassed 60 appearances for the club, even chipping in with 6 goals and 4 assists.

His progress over the last couple of years has captured the attention of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with the player previously being linked with the likes of Real Madrid and AC Milan. And, as things stand, Senesi seems to have popped up on the radar of Barcelona as well.

Barcelona, despite their financial troubles, are bracing themselves for a busy summer, with several departments in Ronald Koeman’s squad set to be addressed in the form of reinforcements. Defence is one such area, with the Blaugrana in the market for not one but two centre-backs, with Eric Garcia tipped to arrive at Camp Nou, despite recent reports linking him with Arsenal and Chelsea.

In addition, it is expected that Samuel Umtiti could be offloaded in the summer transfer window, with things reaching a head at the club due to his frustrating fitness record as well as inconsistent displays. With that being said, Barcelona are scouring the market for a left-footed centre-back to replace the Frenchman, with Alessio Romagnoli one of their targets.

In addition, the Catalan giants also have Ajax’s 23-year-old Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez in their sights. And now, Martinez’s compatriot and fellow Eredivisie star Senesi also seems to have emerged as a target for Barcelona, with several figures at the club being keen admirers of his talent.

Apart from the aforementioned trio, there are several other names being considered as well and it will be interesting to see how the list is filtered out in the weeks to come. For now, though, it looks like Barcelona are interested in signing Senesi from Feyenoord in the summer transfer window, as they look to replace Umtiti.
