Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Jose Gimenez, who is also a target for Chelsea and Manchester United, this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Jose Gimenez has popped up on the radar of Real Madrid over a move in the summer transfer window. The Atletico Madrid defender is also being courted by Chelsea and Manchester United and could be on the move ahead of the 2021/22 season.

Gimenez joined Atletico Madrid from Danubio in the summer of 2013 and has since gone on to establish himself as one of the most impressive defenders in La Liga. However, over the last eight years or so, the 26-year-old has struggled to establish a foothold in Diego Simeone’s side due to injuries and other issues.

Nevertheless, the Uruguayan defender has gone on to rack up 213 appearances for Los Rojiblancos, chipping in with 9 goals and 8 assists. However, ahead of the summer transfer window, it has been claimed that Gimenez could be on his way out of the Wanda Metropolitano this coming summer, though that is not corroborated by Fichajes. Even so, Chelsea in addition to Manchester United and Real Madrid are interested.

Real Madrid’s interest in Gimenez is not surprising, considering they are in a precarious situation over the futures of captain Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, who has coincidentally been linked with Manchester United. With at lease one of the stalwarts expected to call it quits at the club this summer, Los Blancos have been scouring the market for a centre-back.

To that end, a number of central defenders have reportedly been on their radar for quite some time now, including Jules Kounde, who has recently been linked with Chelsea in addition to Manchester United. Speaking of the Blues, their interest in Gimenez is not a fresh development.

In fact, Chelsea were linked with a move for the 26-year-old as recently as March, and it is likely that they are still in pursuit of the player. With recent reports suggesting that Gimenez could be sold by Atletico Madrid this coming summer, the west Londoners have their best chance yet to snap him up.

Analyzing Manchester United’s rumoured pursuits of centre-backs – Who should the Red Devils sign?

As for Manchester United, they have been rumoured to be tailing a number of central defenders, including Kounde, Varane and several others. Gimenez, though, is another viable target, seeing as he will be able to provide his best years to the Red Devils if he arrives ahead of next season. His price tag, though, might be a stumbling block, with Atletico Madrid demanding €60 million for him.

And, it is likely that Chelsea and Manchester United will have a better chance of swooping Gimenez away from Atletico Madrid, considering they are expected to be reluctant to sell to a direct rival in Real Madrid. Having said that, it will be interesting to see if any of the suitors are prepared to pay €60 million to secure his services, or if he stays put at the Wanda Metropolitano.
