Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Clement Lenglet from rivals Barcelona in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet El Gol Digital, Clement Lenglet is the subject of interest from Atletico Madrid over a shock move in the summer transfer window. Barcelona are prepared to cash in on the French defender, who is also being courted by the likes of PSG, Lyon, Rennes and Everton.

Lenglet joined Barcelona from Sevilla in the summer of 2018, arriving at Camp Nou regarded as one of the best young defenders plying their trades in Spain at the time. While the 25-year-old has progressed since then, he has also frustrated a fair bit, particularly this season, when he has blown hot and cold a great deal.

Till date, Lenglet has turned out 126 times for Barcelona, with the French superstar also chipping in with 7 goals and 2 assists. However, his inconsistencies have forced the Blaugrana to put him on the transfer list ahead of the summer transfer window. And, hoping to pounce on the situation are Atletico Madrid.

At Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone has a number of centre-backs at his disposal, each of whom have managed to perform at high levels more often than not. However, it is important to note that Stefan Savic and Felipe are in their thirties; and with Simeone employing a new system that utilises three central defenders, the Colchoneros can surely do with another in the form of Lenglet.

Barcelona, on their part, seem to be preparing to bolster their central defensive unit, seeing as while Eric Garcia has already been tipped to arrive at Camp Nou on a Bosman deal, there are few other centre-backs that have been targeted as well.

To that end, the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Lisandro Martinez and Cristian Romero among others have been linked with the Catalan giants. As for Lenglet, the report suggests that Barcelona would be willing to do business from bids starting at €35 million, and it will be interesting to see if Atletico Madrid are prepared to pay such a sum to secure his services.

Meanwhile, Los Rojiblancos are also facing stiff competition from the likes of PSG, Lyon, Rennes and Everton in pursuit of the Frenchman. However, with Atletico Madrid determined to grab hold of Lenglet, it remains to be seen if they can swoop him away from Barcelona this coming summer.
