Real Madrid are reportedly considering the possibility of re-signing Achraf Hakimi just a year after selling him to Inter Milan.

According to a report from Spanish publication El Gol Digital, reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid are keen on bringing Achraf Hakimi back to the club from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Having come through the youth ranks at Real Madrid, Hakimi made his senior debut in October 2017 but managed only 17 appearances before he was sent out on a two-year loan spell at Borussia Dortmund in 2018. The right-back thrived in Germany, establishing himself as a key member for the Bundesliga outfit.

After two very productive seasons during which he scored 12 goals and registered 17 assists in 73 games for Dortmund, Hakimi returned to Real Madrid last summer only to be sold to Serie A giants Inter Milan. The Moroccan international has thrived in Italy as well, producing a return of six goals and assists apiece in 36 games so far in 2020/21.

Now, just a year after having let him go, Real Madrid are considering the prospect of re-signing Hakimi from Inter. As things stand, the Merengues would be in need of a new right-back this summer given as Lucas Vazquez is out of contract at the end of the season while Alvaro Odriozola is out of favour.

With Dani Carvajal struggling with injuries this term, it is imperative that Zinedine Zidane & co. secure the signing of a new right-sided full-back in the upcoming transfer window. To that end, Los Blancos have recently been linked with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. Now, it seems that Hakimi too is very much on the radars of the club.

However, Real Madrid will have to battle Premier League giants Arsenal in the race to land the 22-year-old Moroccan. Indeed, the Gunners have set their sights on Hakimi heading into the summer as doubts linger over the future of Hector Bellerin at the club. In fact, Arsenal are said to be readying a firm offer for the full-back.

The report, though, adds that Real Madrid will have an advantage over Arsenal or any other suitor for Hakimi. This is because the Spanish capital club inserted a buyback clause during his transfer to Inter Milan, which allows them to sign him back for a transfer fee equal to or greater than €40 million – the amount that the Nerazzurri paid to secure his transfer.

It now remains to be seen if Real Madrid do act on their reported interest in Hakimi and whether the Moroccan international makes his way back to the Santiago Bernabeu before next season starts.
