Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Sheffield United prospect Kyron Gordon who is also a transfer target for Liverpool.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Premier League bigwigs Manchester United have joined arch-rivals Liverpool in pursuit of 18-year-old Sheffield United defender Kyron Gordon.

The teenage centre-back came through the youth ranks at Sheffield United and put pen to paper on his first professional contract with the club back in 2019. He has made four appearances for the Blades’ Under-18 side in the FA Youth Cup this term, but is yet to make his first-team debut for the Yorkshire-based outfit.

However, Gordon has been training with the Sheffield United first-team quite a bit this term and has managed to make a distinct impression on former manager Chris Wilder as well as interim boss Paul Heckingbottom. The 18-year-old has been named on the bench for the Blades three times so far this term.

While he may be yet to break into the first-team at Bramall Lane, Gordon’s development through the youth ranks has been enough to attract interest from some of the biggest clubs in the land. Liverpool and Everton had been credited with an interest in the 18-year-old earlier this year and now it seems like Manchester United have also joined in.

Manchester United, over the past year, have been aggressive in their pursuit of talented youngsters as the club looks to build stars from within the club. This has seen the 20-time English champions bring in a number of promising young talents in recent times while they continue to seek additions such as Thierry Small of Everton or Valencia’s Fabio Blanco who is also being pursued by Chelsea and Barcelona.

Now Gordon has emerged as one such target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co. With the youngster’s contract set to expire in a year, there is a chance that he may be allowed to leave while the Blades might opt to integrate him into the first-team completely as they prepare for a season in the EFL Championship next term.

Apart from Liverpool and Manchester United, Leeds United have also expressed an interest in the 18-year-old centre-back heading into the summer window. It remains to be seen if any of the clubs make a move to secure the signing of Gordon before next season.
