Real Madrid are reportedly on the verge of beating Barcelona to the signing of 16-year-old Catalan prodigy Victor Munoz Villanueva.

According to a report from Spanish publication Defensa Central, Real Madrid are closing in on the capture teenage prodigy Victor Munoz Villanueva, who is also a transfer target for arch-rivals Barcelona.

Victor, 16, currently plays for CF Damm, a Catalonian outfit dedicated to youth football, in the Honor Division in Spain. Having made his debut this term, the winger has enjoyed quite a productive campaign, attracting admiring glances from all across Spain.

Indeed, the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Levante and Espanyol are all keen on signing the 16-year-old prodigy who is a right-sided winger but can also play on the left flank. However, as per the report, it is Real Madrid who are close to completing the signing of Victor from Damm.

Barcelona, of late, have seen a strong influx of academy players into the first-team and that is a trend that they seem to want to continue having been targeting young players with potential such as Nicolas Siri and Gonzalo Sosa, who is also on Real Madrid’s radars, with Victor now emerging as a target.

The 16-year-old is someone that Barcelona already know, given that the youngster spent three years in the Catalan giants’ youth system before moving on. However, they are set to be beaten by their bitter rivals Real Madrid for his signing.

Real Madrid are working towards building a strong youth program that would allow them to churn out players for the first-team from within the club. And Victor is seen as someone with tremendous potential who can grow into a bright prospect in the coming years.

To that end, the reigning Spanish champions have already activated all the necessary protocols to facilitate the signing of the 16-year-old prodigy at the end of the season. Barcelona, as per the report, are not going down without a fight and have made an offer better than that of Real Madrid.

However, Victor has his heart set on a move to the Spanish capital club and is not eyeing a return to Barcelona, handing the Merengues a huge advantage. If signed, the 16-year-old will link up with Real Madrid’s Juvenil A team in the Honor Division, while he could represent them in the UEFA Youth League as well.
