Manchester United are reportedly set to launch a £50 million move for Wolves star Pedro Neto who is being seen as an alternative for Jadon Sancho.

According to a news report from The Sun, Manchester United are plotting a move for Wolves’ Portuguese winger Pedro Neto in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Neto, 21, came through the youth ranks at Portuguese outfit SC Braga and after a stint with Italian capital club Lazio, signed for Wolves in the summer of 2019. The attacker had a fairly decent debut campaign during which he managed five goals and five assists from 44 games in all competitions.

Neto has upped his game this season and has become an important cog in attack for Wolves in the injury-enforced absence of Raul Jimenez. The 21-year-old has a tally of five goals and four assists from 29 games in all competitions so far and looks set to better his returns from last season.

While the numbers aren’t exactly prolific, they don’t tell the entire story. Neto has managed to catch the eyes of onlookers with his pace, trickery on the ball and the ability to constantly cause problems to the opposition defence. Able to play out wide on either flank or even through the middle, he is also a versatile operator.

It is no secret that Manchester United are in the market for a right-sided winger – a position that has been a problem for the club for a number of years now. Jadon Sancho was the Red Devils’ primary transfer target last summer but Borussia Dortmund’s £100 million price tag meant a move failed to come to fruition.

The Bundesliga outfit may change their stance this time around as they face the risk of missing out on Champions League football, which could force them to offload one of their biggest assets. However, there is the possibility that they retain Sancho and cash in on Erling Haaland, another player who has been linked with Manchester United, instead.

Manchester United, as a result, are drafting up alternatives, with Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Goncalves also being targeted as is Leeds United star Raphinha. Now, Wolves’ ace Neto, too, has emerged as a potential target for the Red Devils as they look to bolster their attacking unit in the summer.

The report states that it could take an offer of around £50 million to secure the services of Neto, who signed a new contract with Wolves only last November, extending his stay till 2025. It now remains to be seen if Manchester United do make an attempt to land the one-time capped Portuguese international in the summer.
