Sergio Aguero has reportedly inched closer to making the switch to FC Barcelona from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Eric Garcia will not be the only Manchester City player to join Barcelona on a free transfer in the summer transfer window. Veteran Argentine striker Sergio Aguero is on the verge of sealing a switch to Camp Nou with newly-elected president Joan Laporta having an agreement with him over a Bosman move.

Aguero joined Manchester City from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011 and has since gone on to enjoy a legendary decade-long association with the English giants. Now the all-time top scorer for City, the 34-year-old will go down in history as not only an all-time great for the Citizens but also within the Premier League.

His record for Manchester City is simply astounding, with 257 goals and 73 assists in 383 outings for the club. However, his time at the Etihad is fast approaching its end, with Aguero struggling for game-time this season due to his recent fitness woes. With his current deal set to run out in the summer, the veteran Argentine could leave City on a free transfer, with Barcelona taking note of this development.

Barcelona are about to enter a new era following the election of Joan Laporta as the new president. An ageing squad will be overhauled to a great extent in the summer transfer window, with a striker reported to be high on the Blaugrana’s agenda, after having failed to replace Luis Suarez last summer. To that end, a move for Romelu Lukaku has been mooted.

However, Aguero is also one of the strikers who have been heavily linked with Barcelona, who were offered the chance to sign him. And now, it looks like the cultured striker is destined to be on his way to Camp Nou in the summer, with Laporta having an agreement to sign him on a two-year contract.

Having said that, some formalities are yet to be completed before Aguero can put pen on the deal. For now, though, it looks like Barcelona could be the next destination for the Premier League legend, who is set to depart Manchester City as a free agent in the summer.
