Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is reportedly seeking showdown talks with the club as he eyes an exit less than a year after signing.

According to an exclusive report from the Daily Star, Manchester United star Donny van de Beek is ready to quit the club and has asked for showdown talks with the hierarchy to achieve a resolution over his immediate future.

One of the most sought-after central midfielders less than a year ago, it was heralded as quite the coup when Manchester United signed van de Beek from AFC Ajax last summer in a deal worth just £35 million. And things started in an auspicious manner for the Dutchman as he scored on his debut against Crystal Palace.

However, things have gone pretty much downhill for the 23-year-old ever since as he has started just 11 games across all competitions, with only two of them coming in the Premier League. And this is despite Manchester United’s ace midfielder Paul Pogba missing a large chunk of the campaign due to injuries.

Although, van de Beek himself has been nursing an injury recently, for the majority of the season, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has not shown enough faith in him. And as a result, the former Ajax star is now seeking clarity over his future at Old Trafford.

As per the report, van de Beek fears that he has no long-term future at Manchester United. In addition, he is also worried about losing his place in the Netherlands national team for the upcoming European Championships owing to his lack of game time with the Red Devils.

The 23-year-old has previously been urged to leave Manchester United by Ronald de Boer, the brother of Netherlands manager Frank de Boer. And it seems like van de Beek could be set to take that advice as he has now asked for showdown talks with United’s chief executive Ed Woodward.

So far, van de Beek has featured 26 times across all competitions for Manchester United, managing a paltry return of one goal and one assist each. The nature of his recent injury has been unknown but Solskjaer was hopeful that the Dutchman could be available for the Red Devils’ Europa League clash against AC Milan on Thursday.

Despite his lack of game time at Old Trafford, van de Beek should find plenty of suitors for him if Manchester United do decide to part ways with him in the summer, with Inter Milan already being credited with an interest in the Dutchman. It remains to be seen as to what the outcome of the showdown talks between the midfielder and the club will be.
