Chelsea have reportedly tabled a contract worth €10.5 million per year to secure the services of Gianluigi Donnarumma this coming summer.

According to a report by Libero Quotidiano, Chelsea have made their first move to secure the services of Gianluigi Donnarumma in the summer transfer window. The Premier League giants are ready to offer a €10.5 million-a-year contract to the AC Milan goalkeeper, who is also a target for PSG.

Donnarumma has come a long way since making his AC Milan debut aged just 16. Still only 22, the Italian international is a pivotal figure for club and country while also having established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe.

Till date, Donnarumma has made 236 appearances for AC Milan while also turning out 22 times for Italy. However, the player’s future at San Siro is highly uncertain as things stand, considering he is in the final months of his current contract with the Rossoneri, with progress over a renewal being slow. His situation has alerted a number of clubs including Chelsea.

Chelsea have signed a goalkeeper in each of the last two summer transfer windows, with Kepa Arrizabalaga arriving at Stamford Bridge in 2019 before Edouard Mendy was brought in last year. It is Kepa’s frailties between the sticks that prompted the Blues to enter the market for a goalkeeper ahead of the season, and it has been suggested that the Spaniard could leave the club this summer.

To that end, Donnarumma is someone worth pursuing for Chelsea, especially considering he will not cost anything if he does decide to snub a contract offer from AC Milan. In fact, the 22-year-old would even be an upgrade on Mendy, who has shown some vulnerabilities in his game at times.

With Donnarumma free to negotiate with foreign clubs while waiting on an acceptable offer from AC Milan, it looks like Chelsea have pulled out the stops to land him. The report claims that the Premier League heavyweights have tabled a deal worth €10.5 million per year, which has been labeled as monstrous.

Apart from Chelsea, Real Madrid have also been linked with Donnarumma and it will be interesting to see if the west Londoners’ offer is enough to turn his head. All in all, it remains to be seen what the future holds for the Italian international, whose future is one of the big talking points in European football at the moment.
