Liverpool are reportedly closely monitoring the development of Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, who hasn’t managed to settle down in the Whites colours.

According to a recent report by Diario Gol, Real Madrid’s Brazilian forward Rodrygo has drawn the attention of the English giants Liverpool.

The Los Blancos No. 25 has been going through an inconsistent phase with his present club this term, in spite of emerging as a promising prospect in Zinedine Zidane’s plans. Indeed, after joining the club in 2019, Rodrygo was considered as one of the brightest emerging prospects, who could bolster the attacking options of the defending La Liga champions.

In fact, Rodrygo enjoyed a memorable goal-scoring debut against Osasuna in the 2019/20 campaign. The youngster belted an impressive hat-trick against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League fixture that same season. And due to those staggering performances, he became an overnight sensation within no time.

But since then, the former Santos starlet has been struggling to find his rhythm and failed to kick on as expected. In his 17 outings across all competition this season, Rodrygo has just scored once and served six assists, which does not justify the promise that he possesses, although he has been out injured for some time.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will be looking to reinvent and rebuild after what has been a difficult campaign thus far. Sitting sixth in the Premier League Table, the Reds’ defensive fragility has not only been the sole problem for Jurgen Klopp’s side this term, with their attacking contingent also not firing on all cylinders on a consistent basis.

Mohamed Salah has been doing most of the heavy-lifting in the attacking department for the reigning Premier League champions, with both Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino not enjoying their best campaigns in front of goal. Summer signing Diogo Jota has been a lively addition but has been out injured for quite some time now.

As the circumstances reflect, Liverpool could do with more attacking impetus to re-invent their old form. More so, considering that neither Xherdan Shaqiri nor Divock Origi have convinced enough and are staring at uncertain futures at Anfield.

And, Klopp is already weighing up for possible additions to his side, as the Reds had shown an interest in Atalanta striker Duvan Zapata of late, with Rodrygo also emerging as an option now to further bolster the attack.

As for Real Madrid, president Florentino Perez is aware of the situation of the Brazilian and would be open to sanctioning an exit for the forward. However, the Merseyside giants will have to put €50 million on the table if they are to sign the 20-year-old.

It remains to be seen if there is any progress made on this front come summer, although it does seem unlikely that Liverpool would be willing to part with that sum for a player who hasn’t exactly set the stage alight as expected.
