FC Barcelona are ready to compete with Real Madrid in the pursuit of Bryan Gil, who is also courted by AC Milan this summer.

According to Pianeta Milan, FC Barcelona could be in for a little transfer duel with Real Madrid as the race to sign Bryan Gil hots up this summer. The Sevilla youngster has attracted a lot of interest due to his performances on loan at SD Eibar, becoming one of the rising stars in La Liga this campaign.

Although the two Spanish giants are joined by AC Milan in the pursuit of Gil, FC Barcelona are believed to be in pole position. One of their chief scouts in Vaya Ballabriga, who had notably identified talents such as Andres Iniesta and Ansu Fati, rates him highly – comparing him with Neymar even.

That said, securing the services of Gil this summer will be no walk in the park for FC Barcelona. Aside from the stiff competition, Sevilla themselves are keen on renewing the player’s current contract that expires in 2023.

The current deal also involves a release clause worth €35 million that can be activated in the summer. The two parties, as a result, are negotiating a new contract that could not only extend the deal until 2025 but also increase the release clause to €150 million, although from Sevilla’s part, they would have to promise Gil a role in the starting eleven next season.

That should serve as a massive blow for Barcelona, who may have second guesses before even spending the current release clause of €35 million due to the ongoing financial crisis. The current presidential campaigning and the subsequent election has also played their part in adding a layer of uncertainty regarding the club’s future plans.

Barcelona: A gargantuan club in crisis

Real Madrid also face a similar situation, although they might be able to afford the €35 million release clause as they prepare to offload some of the star players including Sergio Ramos while Isco, Raphael Varane and Lucas Vazquez also face an uncertain future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

As Barcelona and Real Madrid brace themselves for a transitional phase, Gil could be an ideal protagonist, having emerged as a star player for Eibar this season. His excellent quality on the ball, coupled with his productivity and composure is well beyond his years, with the player also boasting excellent versatility.

It bodes well for Barcelona, who could potentially pair Gil up with the likes of Ansu Fati and Pedri, creating one of the deadliest young attacking trifectas in Europe. As for Real Madrid, they could surely welcome the 20-year-old as the desired long-term replacement for Gareth Bale, who is tipped to leave Bernabeu in the summer.
