Real Madrid could get their hands on the Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres provided they meet the Spanish international’s €65 million price tag.

According to a report from Goal.com, Villarreal are demanding a transfer fee of £65 million for Pau Torres, who has emerged as a transfer target for reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid.

Torres is relishing an impressive season under manager Unai Emery, who has been able to bring the best out of the La Roja prodigy. Meanwhile, Los Blancos have been closely monitoring the progress of the 24-year-old since the start of this season, as their veteran defender Sergio Ramos is likely to depart from the club.

With 23 La Liga appearances along with 2 in Copa del Rey and 1 Europa League outing, Torres has managed to establish his authority into the starting XI firmly. As the circumstances reflect, Villarreal would not want to lose their grip on the player in this existing situation, as they are well aware of Torres’ potential and value to the side.

Torres has emerged as one of the biggest breakthrough stars of Spanish football in recent years, and due to his impressive advancement since 2019/20, he has caught the eyes of European heavyweights such as Manchester United within no time.

Following his international debut for Spain on 15th November 2019 against Malta in UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifiers, his value rose to €65 million (£57m/$78m), which was previously around €50 million (£43.4m/$60.1m) in the early stages of his fledgeling career.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has a tough task to pull off, as Sergio Ramos is on the wrong side of the 30s, and due to the complexity around his contract renewal, the 34-year-old could soon be gone at the end of this season. Along with the Spaniard, Raphael Varane also seems to be considering a move to another destination, as he desires a new challenge in his career.

To that end, Real Madrid have recently been linked with 21-years-old Portuguese defender David Carmo and Sevilla’s French centre-back Jules Kounde along with Torres. As for the Villarreal defender, what now remains to be seen is whether the reigning Spanish champions are willing to meet the Yellow Submarine’s €65 million asking price or explore other avenues.
