Barcelona are reportedly set to be offered the chance to sign Sergio Aguero, who is keen on making his way to Camp Nou in the summer.

According to claims by Spanish journalist Santi Ovalle, Barcelona have been contacted over the prospect of signing Sergio Aguero in the summer transfer window. The Manchester City striker is eager to reunite with Lionel Messi at Camp Nou and is ready to swap the Etihad for Camp Nou.

Aguero has enjoyed a legendary stint at Manchester City since joining from Atletico Madrid in the summer of 2011. Over the past decade or so, he has gone on to establish himself in the Premier League folklore, having become the all-time top scorer for City while also breaking records within the top-flight.

With his status as one of the best strikers of his generation being secured, it goes without saying that Aguero has been a major success story for Manchester City, for whom he has 256 goals and 73 assists in 379 appearances. However, with his contract set to run out this summer, the player’s future at the club is uncertain and it has been mooted his next destination could be Barcelona.

This is not the first time that Aguero has been linked with a possible switch to Barcelona. The links do make sense as well, considering Barcelona never really properly replaced Luis Suarez, with Martin Braithwaite the only natural striker in Ronald Koeman’s squad.

The Dane, though, is not a regular for the Blaugrana and has often been played out wide as well, with Lionel Messi playing centrally instead. In Aguero, however, Koeman would have a different option and a natural one at that to lead the line, thereby making him a viable target for Barcelona.

According to Santi Ovalle, Aguero appears to be keen to make his way to Barcelona in the summer. That he would not cost anything in terms of transfer fee would certainly appeal to the Catalans, whose finances are in a dire condition. However, while Aguero is eager to link up with Messi at the Nou Camp, the Barcelona captain’s own future at the club is highly uncertain.

Nevertheless, a move for Aguero to Barcelona would make a ton of sense while Manchester City, on their part, appear to be laying down the succession plan for the 32-year-old, with Romelu Lukaku among the options considered to replace him. What now appears to be seen is if Barcelona take the steps to sign the Argentine international in the summer, having been offered the chance to do so.
