Eric Bailly is in line to replace Victor Lindelof while Mason Greenwood should also start when Manchester United take on Southampton at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will be aiming to close down the gap to the top of the table when they lock horns with Southampton at Old Trafford in Matchweek 22 of the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Ahead of the game, the Red Devils’ manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been treated with positive injury news as Scott McTominay, who had to be taken off with stomach cramps against Arsenal, has recovered and is available for selection. As the Norwegian confirmed in his pre-match presser, Manchester United have a clean bill of health.

“Well apart from the wear and tear and, as you say, the quick turnaround, everyone should be available. They’re not injured anyway. It’s just a matter of energy levels and seeing how they feel tomorrow. There are no new, fresh injuries anyway,” Solskjaer said.

With Manchester United in desperate need of a victory, the manager is likely to refrain from making wholesale changes against Southampton. That should see David de Gea continue between the sticks on Tuesday while Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw continue as the full-backs.

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire is a certainty at the heart of the defence. However, the Englishman could be in for a change of partners, with Eric Bailly set to come in for Victor Lindelof as Solskjaer continues to manage the Swede’s chronic back issue.

McTominay is fit and available for the game, but is unlikely to get the nod, with Manchester United likely to go in with the midfield double pivot of Fred and Paul Pogba, the Frenchman moving into his natural habitat after starting on the wing against Arsenal at the weekend.

There is no looking past Bruno Fernandes in the No. 10 role despite his form being on the wane of late. Flanking him on the night should be Marcus Rashford, who also endured a poor outing at the Emirates, and Mason Greenwood, who is in line for a start after a brief cameo last time out.

Anthony Martial has looked well below his best of late and as a result, Edinson Cavani, who was the match-winner for Manchester United against Southampton in the reverse fixture last year, should continue as the centre-forward on Tuesday.

Manchester United Predicted XI: de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Bailly, Maguire, Shaw; Pogba, Fred; Greenwood, Fernandes, Rashford; Cavani
