Former Real Madrid star Rafael van der Vaart has dismissed speculations linking the club with a move for Feyenoord centre-back Marcos Senesi.

Speaking to Studio Voetbal (h/t Voetbal Zone), former Real Madrid midfielder and Dutch great Rafael van der Vaart has rubbished reports claiming that Los Blancos are interested in signing Feyenoord defender Marcos Senesi.

23-year-old Senesi came through the youth ranks at Argentine outfit San Lorenzo and went on to make 69 appearances for the club before making the switch to Feyenoord in the summer of 2019. Since landing in the Netherlands, the centre-back has been a regular in the side, featuring 49 times for the Eredivisie outfit so far.

24 of his 49 appearances for Feyenoord have come in the ongoing campaign, during which he has also contributed with a couple of goals and assists apiece. He has started all but one game in all competitions for the Dutch outfit this term, highlighting his importance to the team.

Senesi’s impressive run with Feyenoord led to reports earlier this month claiming that the Argentine international was on the radars of Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions will likely be in need of a new centre-back come summer as the future of captain and legend Sergio Ramos hangs in the balance.

The veteran centre-back is out of contract at the end of the season and talks over a new deal have not progressed as per plans. In addition, Ramos’s centre-back partner, Raphael Varane, also has his sights set on a summer exit from the Spanish capital.

In addition to that, Eder Militao has not been able to make the desired impact at the club since his big-money move from FC Porto in 2019. So, a new centre-back could become a top priority for Real Madrid ahead of the next season, making Senesi a viable target, who could be sold by Feyenoord for €30 million.

However, former Real Madrid star Rafael van der Vaart has dismissed those speculations, saying that his agent could be drumming up interest, at the same time insisting that the Argentine’s valuation is a tad high.

“If you are going to say that this is worth twenty million euros and is in the interest of Real Madrid… Well, I don’t believe that at all. In fact, he falls short in everything. A great defender, but don’t say Real Madrid is interested. His agent will probably just do that himself. And also between 25 and 30 million. Nothing. Ten million,” he said.

Real Madrid are already set to snap up the signing of David Alaba on a free transfer. While another defender might be needed come summer, it remains to be seen if they do retain any interest in Senesi.
