Real Madrid centre-back Raphael Varane could reportedly leave the club in the summer, as he wishes to embark on a new adventure.

According to a report from Spanish publication SPORT, Spanish giants Real Madrid could face a major problem as Raphael Varane is craving a fresh adventure after spending the past decade with the reigning La Liga champions.

The Frenchman has been one of those ravishing figures for Los Blancos for a heavy amount of time, and the player’s influential displays throughout his tenure have played a pivotal role in the club’s sensational run. Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane was the main reason behind the signing of Varane back in 2011, and along with his guidance, the player has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the world.

During the course of his Real Madrid stint, the central defender’s gargantuan accolades have truly been the highlights of his career. After a decade with the Merengues, his implacable achievements are quite staggering, having grabbed 3 La Liga titles, 4 UEFA Champions Leagues, 4 FIFA Club World Cups, 3 UEFA Super Cups and 3 Spanish Super Cups.

However, the Real Madrid superstar feels that he needs to embark on a new adventure. The 27-year-old defender is aware of the fact that he still has plenty to provide in this game, as the Frenchman believes this should be an ideal period for a change of scenery, and could be set for a move away from the Spanish capital.

Meanwhile, Zidane needs to solve the recently emerged centre-back issue in a trice, as he knows the magnitude of the Frenchman’s calibre. Varane’s departure could pose another problem, as captain, Sergio Ramos has not renewed his contract, which runs till June 2021 and is on the verge of leaving Real Madrid.

The Whites have already set their sights on David Alaba, who is believed to be on the verge of joining the club. Los Blancos are looking forward to enhancing their probability of challenging for silverware, but might have to delve into the market for another centre-back if Varane leaves as well.

Real Madrid’s well-decorated defensive pair have stabilised the defensive unit for a decade, but a hapless exit will befuddle the backline, and squander the strength of the squad. Pau Torres has also been mooted as a possible summer signing for Real Madrid, but they face stiff competition from Barcelona and Chelsea in the race to sign the Spaniard.

As for Varane, it will be interesting to see if he does end up calling it quits at Real Madrid when the summer transfer window opens later this year. The 2018 World Cup winner has previously been linked with Manchester United and it remains to be seen if other suitors emerge in his pursuit.
