Victor Lindelof should return to the lineup while Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay will also start when Manchester United face Liverpool in the FA Cup.
Manchester United will be aiming to make it through the next stage of the 2020/21 FA Cup when they face off against bitter rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford in a fourth round fixture on Sunday evening.
In the lead-up to the game, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been handed an injury boost as defender Victor Lindelof is back in contention after missing the midweek clash against Fulham with a back issue. That makes Brandon Williams and Phil Jones the only injury-related absentees for Manchester United for Sunday’s game.
Speaking about Lindelof in his pre-match presser, Solskjaer said, “Victor will be fine for the weekend. I wanted to play Eric [Bailly] against Fulham and Victor wasn’t ready anyway, so we now have four days extra [for Victor]. He got some treatment [on Wednesday] and did some light training so he should be ready for the weekend.”
It is very much likely that Lindelof will start against Liverpool, at the expense of Eric Bailly. The Swede will partner Manchester United captain Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence, flanked by Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Alex Telles, who will come in for Luke Shaw. Dean Henderson should come in for David de Gea in goal as has been the norm for cup ties this season.
Fred played the full ninety minutes against Fulham in midweek. However, given the value he brings to the team with his work-rate, his presence will be key against Liverpool. Thus, the Brazilian should once again start on Sunday but will be in for a change of partners, though, with Scott McTominay stepping into the starting XI.
This would mean Paul Pogba, who started as part of the midfield double pivot against Fulham, will move to an advanced role on the left flank, a position that he been frequently used in of late by Solskjaer. The creative onus will fall on the shoulders of Portuguese talisman Bruno Fernandes starting in the No. 10 role for Manchester United.
Marcus Rashford, who made a substitute appearance against Fulham, ought to replace the ineffective Mason Greenwood on the right wing. Spearheading the attack for Manchester United against Liverpool should be Edinson Cavani after his goal-scoring display in midweek. Anthony Martial will be an option from the bench.
Manchester United Predicted XI: Henderson; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Telles; McTominay, Fred; Rashford, Fernandes, Pogba; Cavani
