Manchester United are set to face fresh competition from Borussia Monchengladbach in the race to sign Stade Brest midfielder Romain Faivre.

According to Le 10 Sport, Borussia Monchengladbach have joined the race to sign Romain Faivre. The Stade Brest midfielder has attracted a lot of attention following his breakthrough at the club. He is, in fact, being closely watched by Premier League giants Manchester United, as well as, French champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Gladbach, however, are ready to provide stiff competition to Manchester United and PSG as they have already identified Faivre as their priority target in the summer transfer window. The player’s current contract at Brest expires in 2025, having recently signed an extension with the club.

A former member of the AS Monaco youth academy, Faivre has been one of the rising stars in Ligue 1 this campaign. He has featured in each of Brest’s 20 league matches, becoming a vital cog in the club’s second line of press. His versatility, in particular, has impressed the onlookers, with the 22-year-old notably featuring in four different positions this season.

Although Faivre is a central midfielder by trade, he has looked quite comfortable in the wide midfield role as well. It has been reflected in his productivity as the Frenchman has been involved in an impressive seven goals in 20 matches. His contributions in the final third have helped Brest retain their status in the mid-table so far this term.

As a result, Faivre has been tracked by a number of clubs including Manchester United this season. It appears the Red Devils are particularly keen on his wide-play as the player has averaged over two key passes per game. In addition, he has registered almost three successful dribbles per game – making him a potential long-term replacement for someone like Juan Mata.

Much like the Spaniard, Faivre can operate in a host of positions, including central midfield. His ability to act as a ball-carrier and create chances are ideal as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues his search for a new creator who can support Bruno Fernandes. But, Manchester United should be worried about Gladbach’s interest in the midfielder.

The Foals have emerged as an appealing destination for Ligue 1 players, with stars like Ramy Bensebaini, Marcus Thuram and Alassane Plea all making quite an impact at Borussia Park in recent seasons. The Bundesliga outfit could also offer diverse tactical playing field, as well as a room to improve further under the leadership Marco Rose and Rene Maric, as Faivre looks to take the next step in his career this summer.
