Liverpool have reportedly made the signing of Adama Traore from fellow Premier League outfit Wolves their top priority for the summer transfer window.

According to Spanish publication Todo Fichajes, reigning Premier League champions Liverpool are set to prioritise a move for Wolves winger and Spanish international Adama Traore in the summer transfer window later this year.

Liverpool had been strongly linked with a move for the 24-year-old this past summer after Traore had enjoyed a fine 2019/20 campaign with the Midlands outfit. However, a move never materialised, as the Reds instead signed his then-Wolves teammate Diogo Jota, who has made quite the impact at Anfield.

Traore, for his part, stayed at Wolves but has found himself being handed a rotation role under Nuno Espirito Santo this term. Having been an ever-present in the starting XI last term, the Spaniard has started just 11 of their 18 Premier League games this term, managing a solitary assist in the process.

In addition to his reduced game-time, Traore’s contract situation is something that could force him out of the Molineux this summer. The 24-year-old’s current deal runs till the summer of 2023, but Wolves are keen to tie him down to a new contract. However, the winger is yet to agree to new terms.

Should he fail to sign a new contract, Wolves would be open to the prospect of cashing in on him in the summer transfer window, piquing the interest of champions Liverpool. The Reds, following the arrival of Jota in the summer, have plenty of options in the attacking third.

However, question marks remain over the futures of Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi, with the latter being linked with a move to RB Leipzig recently. Furthermore, the report goes on to add that Liverpool could be facing the prospect of losing one of their much-vaunted attacking trident of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane at the end of the season.

And, Liverpool are already putting plans in place to fill any potential vacancies that may be created in the summer, with Klopp recommending the signing of Traore from Wolves. It is further stated that the German tactician has personally spoken with the Spanish winger on multiple occasions to convince him to make the switch to Anfield.

Furthermore, the report also adds that Liverpool and Wolves have been in contact over the possibility of a transfer but have decided to push back the talks until the end of the season. Despite his disappointing start to the new season, Traore remains a top talent with great ability and it remains to be seen if the Reds move for him come summer.
