Arsenal are reportedly set to open talks with the representatives of Norwich City winger Emiliano Buendia over the possibility of a transfer.

According to Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal are set to make their first move to try and sign Argentine winger Emiliano Buendia from EFL Championship outfit Norwich City by opening talks with the agents of the winger in the coming weeks.

The 24-year-old has been with Norwich since the summer of 2018, when he signed from Spanish club Getafe and has grown into one of the Canaries’ best player since. Having helped them to promotion to the Premier League, Buendia made quite the impression in his debut English top-flight campaign even though Norwich ended up getting relegated.

The Argentine has been carrying on in the same vein of form in the Championship, once again leading the Canaries’ charge for promotion. So far, in 21 appearances in the English second division in 2020/21, Buendia has produced an impressive tally of seven goals and seven assists each.

His exploits in the second-tier have not gone unnoticed, with Arsenal taking a keen interest in the Argentine. The Gunners endured a difficult start to the season, with the lack of a creative presence in the final third hampering them a great deal.

However, things have been looking up for them over the past couple of weeks, with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe making the difference. But, with Mesut Ozil leaving the club for Fenerbahce, there remains a lack of depth in the playmaking role.

Even though that is set to be addressed, albeit on a temporary basis, by the impending loan signing of Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid, Arsenal will need a more permanent fix to the problem, with Buendia representing the solution for their issues.

Having been primarily used on the right flank, Buendia would represent a major upgrade on misfiring Arsenal duo Willian and Nicolas Pepe based on recent form. In addition, he can also play through the middle as a No. 10 or slot in on the left wing as well.

To that end, Arsenal are set to open talks with Buendia’s representatives in the coming weeks. A move, though, will probably have to wait till the end of the season, considering that there is just a little over a week left for the January transfer window to end.

It had been claimed earlier this month that Norwich City would demand £50 million for their prized asset. It now remains to be seen if the negotiations between Arsenal and Buendia’s agents lead to anything fruitful in the coming weeks.
