RB Leipzig are reportedly considering a move to sign Divock Origi from Liverpool on loan in the ongoing transfer window.

According to German outlet Sport Bild, as relayed by Get German Football News, Divock Origi has emerged on the radar over a possible loan transfer in the current transfer window. The Liverpool striker is one of three candidates considered by the Bundesliga heavyweights to bolster their attack.

Origi joined Liverpool from Lille in the summer of 2014 in the aftermath of an impressive campaign with Belgium at that year’s World Cup. However, the player has never been able to nail down a spot as a regular in the Reds’ first-team setup, with his best spell coming in 2019, when he scored a glut of important goals for the Merseyside giants in their triumphant Champions League campaign.

Since then, though, Origi’s stock has constantly been on the decline and he has become a peripheral figure for Liverpool in the ongoing season. The 25-year-old has started just four games all season so far and with every passing month, it has become clear that his future lies away from Anfield.

The likes of Inter Milan and Atletico Madrid have been linked with possible January moves while Premier League club Wolves were also showing an interest. Now, though, RB Leipzig have emerged in his pursuit, as they look to close the January transfer window by signing a striker.

The Bundesliga heavyweights have struggled to replace the goals of Timo Werner, who joined Chelse last summer. Alexander Sorloth and Hwang Hee-chan arrived at the Red Bull Arena in the same window, but have not been as influential as they would have liked to be for various reasons.

Even long-time servant Yussuf Poulsen has blown hot and cold this term, which explains why RB Leipzig are in the market for a striker. And, Liverpool outcast Origi is one of three candidates being considered for a loan move this month, with Kelechi Iheanacho and Kasper Dolberg also popping up on their radar.

The interest in making a loan move makes sense for Leipzig, considering it has been claimed that Arsenal prodigy Folarin Balogun could be joining them in the summer. With Hwang also rated quite highly, it is not surprising that a permanent move to swoop Origi away from Liverpool has been considered.

What will now be interesting to see is who among Origi, Dolberg and Iheanacho is chosen to be the priority loan target for Leipzig before the transfer window slams shut. For now, it looks like the Liverpool outcast is a January target for the Bundesliga giants and it remains to be seen if he makes his way to Germany soon.
