Tottenham Hotspur are among clubs monitoring the situation of Manchester United star Jesse Lingard, who is facing an uncertain future at the club.
A recent report from ESPN has shed some light on the future of Jesse Lingard. The Manchester United attacker is apparently unhappy at the club due to his lack of game-time in the ongoing campaign. As a result, he is keen on leaving the club, with a host of European giants including Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan already keen on securing his services.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, however, is reluctant to offload Lingard, fearing he may lose too many players in this ongoing January transfer window. Manchester United have already allowed Timothy Fosu-Mensah to join Bayer Leverkusen while the likes of Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero have been given the green light to leave the club as well.
It has put Solskjaer on red alert, as the Norwegian is unwilling to lose too many players ahead of a hectic schedule in the second half of the campaign. It appears that the Manchester United manager has already learned his lesson following a congested fixture list of the first half of the season that made it almost imperative for managers to have a sizable depth in their team.
Tottenham Hotspur, in particular, have been one of those clubs who have excelled in terms of overall team depth. As a result, the Lilywhites have been able to field a completely different in the domestic cup competitions as well as the UEFA Europa League. However, with Dele Alli being linked with a move potential move away from north London, Jose Mourinho has now set his sights on Lingard, it seems.
The former Real Madrid boss does have a good relationship with the Englishman due to their time together at Manchester United. In fact, the Portuguese tactician was quite influential in Lingard’s initial breakthrough at Old Trafford and things went south for the United attacker only when Mourinho left the helm.
A reunion at Tottenham, that had been mooted in the summer as well, could, therefore, be deemed as a positive move for Lingard. But, the 28-year-old could also consider a move to Inter Milan given how Antonio Conte has managed to rejuvenate former Manchester United players like Romelu Lukaku, Ashley Young, Alexis Sanchez and Matteo Darmian.
Unfortunately for these clubs, however, it remains unlikely that Solskjaer will give Lingard the green light to leave Old Trafford this January as the manager prepares for a rough second half of the campaign.
