Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has claimed that Real Madrid or Barcelona may move for Sadio Mane over Mohamed Salah.

As quoted by Daily Express, Jamie Carragher has shed some light on the future of Mohamed Salah. The Liverpool winger has been linked with a move to European giants like Real Madrid and Barcelona in the past, with his current contract at Anfield expiring in the summer of 2023.

However, Carragher claims the Spanish heavyweights may find it difficult to rack up in excess of £100 million for the services of Salah. The former defender thinks the Egyptian’s age could play a key role in their decision making, especially knowing the fact that players like Sadio Mane, Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe could be better long-term investments.

“But I think the situation now – financially and his age – means clubs don’t have that kind of money for him. You are talking in excess of £100million, and I think Real Madrid and Barcelona would be looking at Mbappe or Haaland or even Mane ahead of Salah now because of his age,” Carragher told Express.

The 42-year-old has further stated that he is not worried about Salah’s future at Anfield, about a month after his former national teammate Mohamed Aboutrika sparked viral rumours regarding the player’s alleged unhappiness at Liverpool. The winger was particularly unhappy with the club’s decision of giving Trent Alexander-Arnold the captaincy in the game against Midtjylland in the Champions League, as per claims.

Although the 28-year-old has come a long way since, Liverpool fans do still have reasons to worry about the future of Salah. In the ongoing campaign, the former Chelsea star has lacked consistency despite scoring 13 goals in 17 matches. His frustration has been further sparked by Liverpool’s underwhelming performances in the league.

And with Manchester United and Manchester City both re-emerging in the title race, missing out on the Premier League title this season could have dire consequences for Liverpool, as far as Salah’s future is concerned. Fortunately for the Reds, however, they already seem to have their tracks covered, thanks to the addition of the fantastic Diogo Jota.

The former Wolves attacker has been one of the best players at Anfield this season, scoring nine goals in all competitions. His progress was stifled by an unfortunate injury, but the Portuguese international remains a key asset for the future.

It is also too early to predict the future of either Salah or Mane, given the fact that a lot could depend on how the Reds finish their 2020/21 campaign. However, it will be interesting to see if Carragher’s prediction does indeed come true.

I would be very surprised if Real or Barca came in for either Mane or Salah. Both players are already at a big football club – namely Liverpool FC.
