Barcelona are reportedly lining up a move for Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot, who is currently out on loan at Serie A giants AC Milan.

According to a report from El Mundo Deportivo, as relayed by Calciomercato, Manchester United full-back Diogo Dalot, who is currently on loan at AC Milan, has emerged as a potential transfer target for La Liga heavyweights Barcelona.

The 21-year-old Dalot joined Manchester United in the summer of 2018 from FC Porto. However, he was never able to establish himself as a regular at Old Trafford, partly due to injury and fitness issues and partly due to the emergence of Aaron Wan-Bissaka as the first-choice right-back after his arrival in 2019.

In his two years at Old Trafford, the 21-year-old managed just 35 appearances, bagging a solitary goal and three assists. Having dropped down the pecking order at Manchester United, Dalot was allowed to leave the club on a temporary basis, with the Portuguese youngster joining Milan in the summer last year.

While he has not been a regular in Serie A for the Rossoneri, Dalot has impressed in the cup games and the UEFA Europa League so far. Till date, the former FC Porto starlet has featured 14 times in all competitions for Stefano Piolo’s side, netting one goal and setting up two more.

AC Milan are not in a hurry to make Dalot’s transfer to San Siro permanent and will only discuss the possibility of such a move in spring. So, as things stand, the Portuguese will be heading back to Manchester United when his loan deal runs out in June. And Barcelona are hoping to capitalise on this by launching a move for the 21-year-old.

Barcelona bolstered their right-back department with the signing of Sergino Dest in the summer transfer window. However, the USMNT international is yet to fully adjust to his new surroundings and has blown hot and cold so far in his tenure at Camp Nou.

Sergi Roberto has struggled with injury problems and Oscar Mingueza still lacking experience at the highest level. Furthermore, Emerson, who will return to Camp Nou at the end of the season after his two-year spell at Real Betis, is being linked with a move away to PSG.

So, Barcelona are looking to add another right-back to their ranks with Dalot emerging as a viable target. To that end, the Blaugrana are ready to sanction an €11 million move for the 21-year-old in the summer. But, the report does add that AC Milan will hold the key to the possibility of any potential summer transfer or the Manchester United man.

Barcelona does not need a right back at this moment rather they need centre backs and a good left back with a sharp striker that’s all.
