Real Madrid are reportedly considering making a swoop for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus in the summer transfer window.

According to reports in Germany, as relayed by Todo Fichajes, reigning La Liga champions Real Madrid are lining up a summer move for Borussia Monchengladbach’s German midfielder Florian Neuhaus.

The 23-year-old started out at the academy of VfL Kaufering but spent most of his youth career at TSV 1860 Munich before making the switch to Monchengladbach in the summer of 2017. Neuhaus spent a year out on loan with Fortuna Dusseldorf before becoming a regular at Borussia Park from 2018 onwards.

Till date, the central midfielder has made 93 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, bagging 13 goals and 16 assists in the process. Neuhaus has been particularly impressive in the ongoing campaign, having already produced a return of five goals and four assists from 22 games across all competitions.

Real Madrid will soon need to enter the transfer market for reinforcements in the middle of the park. The Merengues will need to secure a long-term replacement for star man Luka Modric, who despite impressing this term, is in the final phase of his career at 35 years of age.

Toni Kroos, too, is in his thirties and it is important that Real Madrid start planning for the future lest they run the risk of falling behind their rivals with an ageing squad at their disposal. A host of midfielders have been mentioned as targets for Los Blancos, with Olympique Lyon’s Houssem Aouar said to be high on Zidane’s wishlist.

Now, Neuhaus has also emerged as a potential target for the Spanish capital outfit, with Zidane said to have been impressed by the three-time capped German international. Indeed, the Frenchman got a close look at the 23-year-old when Gladbach and Real Madrid clashed in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League and is now considering signing him.

Real Madrid, however, are not alone in pursuit of Neuhaus. The Merengues will face competition from the current German and European champions Bayern Munich, who are also keen on the midfielder, valued at €40 million by Borussia Monchengladbach. It, however, remains to be seen if Zidane & co. act on their interest in him come summer.
