Luka Jovic has temporarily left Real Madrid to join Eintracht Frankfurt on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

Eintracht Frankfurt have made an official statement to confirm that they have secured the services of Luka Jovic. The Serbian striker has left Real Madrid on loan, making his way to the Bundesliga club for the rest of the 2020/21 season.

Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer of 2019, arriving at the Santiago Bernabeu widely regarded as one of the best young strikers in Europe. The 23-year-old had enjoyed a stellar 2018/19 campaign with the German outfit, having plundered 27 goals and 7 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions.

The move to Real Madrid, though, has not panned out as envisioned, with the Serbian striker failing to carve out a place for himself as a regular in Zinedine Zidane’s squad. In 32 outings for the Spanish heavyweights, Jovic has managed just 2 goals and as many assists. And, with every passing month, it has become clear that he was not going to usurp Karim Benzema anytime soon.

To that end, rumours of a possible January loan move started to emerge, with AC Milan among the clubs showing an interest in him. Now, though, former club Eintracht Frankfurt have swooped him away from Real Madrid, on loan for the remainder of the 2020/21 season.

The Eagles have blown hot and cold this term, having managed to win just 5 of their 15 games, scoring 25 goals in those match-ups. While Andre Silva has been the shining light, the departure of Bas Dost has opened up a massive hole within the Eintracht Frankfurt squad, one which can be filled by Jovic.

A return to his old stomping ground could well spark Jovic back into life, which could in turn be beneficial for his Real Madrid stint, if he indeed has a future at the club. And, Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic has greeted the return of the young striker.

“Luka can use the next few months to find his way back to old strength in a familiar environment. Real Madrid know that he is in good hands with us and that he can develop here. And it is clear to us that we have another excellent option in the storm center.”

It will now be interesting to see if Jovic can rediscover the swagger that earned him a move to Real Madrid in the first place. The remainder of the 2020/21 season will be extremely crucial for the Serbian international and he will be eager to bounce back to his best form.
